By: Isatou Sarr

The police are investigating two separate alleged murder cases in the North Bank Region both involving minors, sources disclosed yesterday.

According to Gambia Police Force (GPF), the first case occurred in Ndofan Village on 29th September, where four-year-old Musa Manneh was allegedly struck on the head with a stone by 16-year-old Samba Faal. The child later died, and the police indicated that arrangements were underway for a psychiatric evaluation of the suspect.

In the second case, also reported by the GPF, the incident occurred in Daru Rilwan on 29th September and involved 15-year-old Modou Njie and 13-year-old Mutarr Jawara. The police said that the two were moving to cut grass for their horses when a dispute arose, during which Mutarr allegedly stabbed Modou in the neck with a sickle. Modou was later pronounced dead at Njaba Kunda Health Centre.

The GPF confirmed that crime scene investigators visited both locations to collect evidence. In the Daru Rilwan case, the police report notes that the sickle believed to be the weapon used to commit murder, along with other items, were recovered for forensic analysis.

According to the statement, police have urged parents and guardians to exercise vigilance over children, encourage peaceful conflict resolution, and ensure that minors do not have access to dangerous objects that could result in injury or death.

The GPF highlighted in the report that these tragic incidents underscore the need for increased supervision of minors and community awareness to ensure the safety and protection of children in the region.
