PAP Leader Accuses Politicians of Fuelling Tribalism

By Kemo Kanyi

Ebrima Tabora Manneh, the leader of the People’s Alliance Party (PAP), has pointed accusing fingers at his fellow politicians of fuelling tribalism in the country for their selfish gain.

Responding to the question of The Voice newspaper’s reporter in an interview on Thursday in Banjul, about an alleged increase in tribal politics and his advice to the average Gambian, he advised against adhering to the tribal cards politicians play at the detriment of the electorate.

According to him, politicians are deliberately creating divisions within Gambians by using tribal politics as their gateway, saying: “All these tribal problems that we are facing are fuelled by politicians. They are deliberately mixing us up and creating distrust within society to gain what they want. Gambians should be mindful of such political strategists. Mr. Manneh outlines that the focus of citizens should be on how to improve the “undesirable” conditions in the country.

The People’s Alliance Party’s secretary general adds that the current dispensation has failed in addressing or improving crucial sectors like health, education, youth employment, and other basic needs, adding that these must be the worry of all meaningful Gambians, not tribal consideration, even though politicians keep driving towards that pathetic path.

Mr. Manneh encouraged the government to consider prioritising Gambians in crucial economic sectors so that the growth of the country’s economy rests in the hands of its citizens, maintaining that this will yield a rapid and transformative development of The Gambia’s economy.

PAP leader accused the government of giving out the fisheries sector to foreigners, maintaining that it is one of the reasons the country’s economic sector is declining.

He further advised Gambian electorates to vote out the Barrow administration, adding that it had failed to address the wishes of citizens.
