Ousainou Bojang and his sister, Amie Bojang, have been released from detention at Mile 2 Central Prison following two days of public protest.
The siblings were initially detained on Tuesday, shortly after the High Court acquitted and discharged them of charges linked to the 2023 shooting that killed two police officers at the Sukuta–Jabang traffic lights. Their case had been before the High Court for more than two years.
They were rearrested just hours after their release, triggering a tense public reaction. Dozens of protesters took to the streets, calling for the Bojang siblings to be freed.
The state had earlier indicated plans to appeal the High Court ruling but later withdrew an ex parte application seeking to block their bail.
In a statement, the Gambia Police Force confirmed that Ousainou and Amie Bojang had been released with immediate effect.
Authorities urged the public to remain calm and continue their lawful activities, assuring that peace and public order would be maintained.
Their release follows widespread public attention and protests calling for justice and respect for the court’s verdict.
