Lamin Gaye, a graduate of Food and Nutrition, revealed that a low intake of fiber-rich foods Leads to constipation.

He said it’s a health risk for people to stay for days without going to the toilet.

” Less water consumption in a day, high amount of protein in the diet and Suddenly reducing the meal size or fat diet are also factors causing constipation, especially during the cool season”

He also stated that improper sleep and lack of physical exercise are responsible.

He advised people to drink 10-12 glasses of water noting that it helps to digest the food well and also mobilize the food in the intestine.

He recommended that people should eat fiber-rich fruits such as apples, guava, and vegetables.

According to him, Constipation occurs when peristalsis—the muscular contractions that move stool through the colon—slows down. This leads to:

Stool stays longer in the colon, where water is absorbed, making it harder to pass.
