“Nobody Hates Talib in UDP”- Banjul Mayor

 By: Kemo Kanyi

Rohey Malick Lowe, the Mayor of Banjul City Council (BCC), has dismissed claims that some UDP militants dislike Talib Bensouda, saying “nobody hates him” in their camp.

Speaking in an audio message obtained by The Voice, the BCC Mayor says there is no hatred in the United Democratic Party, urging political commentators to desist from disrespecting Ousainou Darboe, as he has made enough sacrifices to salvage The Gambia during the harshest moments of the nation.

She challenges people who have alleged that she dislikes Talib Bensouda to provide at least one reason for such a claim, emphasizing that if they can come up with one reason, she can tell them numerous reasons that Talib Bensouda hates her, pointing out that nobody hates Talib and there is no hatred in UDP.

“There are no grudges that I or Yankuba Darboe have against Talib. The truth is that every group has a leader. Ousainou Darboe has been here since 1996 and has been our flagbearer. Why must it be different this time and say Ousainou Darboe must leave by force?” she remarked. “Some of our party supporters are advocating for Yankuba Darboe, some for Talib, and others for a different candidate. No one can impose his or her candidate on us. Even Ousainou Darboe doesn’t have such powers. The party follows its democratic principles,” Ms Lowe stressed.

She adds that Ousainou Darboe has conscience and he is on the ground and knows what’s best for the party, adding that the young politicians within the party, like herself, will never go on any platform to castigate their party leader. “We are not doing such for anyone. There’s something that has been going on for a long time, and that’s the truth. We are not insane. We are seeing what various writers and speakers are saying. We are also seeing what’s been said in gatherings as well.” She maintains that people pushing Bensouda’s split with the UDP are not helpful to him.

Rohey Malick Lowe states that Talib does not have the wisdom to impose himself on UDP, emphasizing that he (Talib) can’t do that. She added that she would never risk her political career for anyone. “We are seeing, hearing, and we are having intelligence information of what has been going on.”

She advised people who are behind Talib Bensouda to push him to a corner where he could not rescue himself.
