New Gambia Road Transport Bill To Reshape the Sector

 

The Ministry of Transport, works and
Infrastructure on Wednesday 2 July hosted a 2-day external validation workshop at the Sir Dawda Jawara International Conference Center to present the Draft Gambia Road Transport Bill, 2025.

The Bill seeks to repeal the outdated Motor Traffic Act of 1948 and introduce modern regulations aligning with road safety standards.

Permanent Secretary Matar Ceesay emphasized the significance of this document in modernizing the country’s road transport system framework.

“This document marks a significant milestone in our collective efforts to modernize the legal and institutional framework governing road transport in the Gambia”

Representatives from the private sector, National Roads Authority, and Gambia Transport Union echoed the bill’s benefits, including improved road safety, reduced challenges, and enhanced access to private roads.

The stakeholders are working towards enacting a law that protects users and ensures overall safety for all road users.
