The Turkish Embassy has confirmed that Karpowership already received all payments owed by The Gambia earlier this year, saying the company was fully paid in June and July and that “there is no new payment expected.” This directly contradicts Finance Minister Seedy Keita’s briefing to lawmakers, where he said part of the expanded 45 million dollar World Bank package would be used to clear arrears owed to the Turkish firm.
The Embassy, which shared the clarification with journalists on Friday, added that Karpower will issue an official statement on the matter.
Minister Keita had told the National Assembly that outstanding arrears would be settled using the new World Bank support, a claim now challenged by the Embassy’s communication and one that raises serious questions about the accuracy of information presented to lawmakers and the public.
