NEDI and IOM Launch Training Program for Returnees

This week, the National Enterprise Development Initiative (NEDI) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) launched a training program for 90 returnees across three regions: Lower River Region (LRR), West Coast Region (WCR), and Greater Banjul Area (GBA). The initiative, designed to bolster the entrepreneurial capabilities of the returnees, will see 30 participants from each region engage in an intensive six-day training.

The comprehensive program will cover crucial areas such as general entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and career guidance. These sessions aim to provide the returnees with a robust understanding of the business world, preparing them for successful entrepreneurial ventures.

One of the program’s standout features is the financial support that IOM will offer upon completion of the training. This funding is intended to help the participants realize their business goals, providing a much-needed boost as they transition from training to implementation.

The Ministry of Youth & Sports, National Youth Council – The Gambia, Gambian-German Centre, NYSS – The Gambia, and the Office of The President Of Gambia have all expressed their support for this initiative. This collaborative effort underscores the importance of empowering returnees through skill development and financial backing.

Lamin Tamba, a spokesperson for NEDI, highlighted the significance of the program: “This training is not just about imparting knowledge; it’s about giving our returnees the tools they need to build sustainable futures. With the support of our partners, we’re confident that these 90 individuals will go on to make meaningful contributions to our economy.”

This training initiative marks a significant step forward in the efforts to support returnees in The Gambia, equipping them with the skills and resources needed to thrive as entrepreneurs.
