Migrants’ fuel seizure: Jinack Imam cooperates with investigators

The Imam of Jinack Kajata has voluntarily reported to the Gambia Immigration Department (GID) to assist investigations linked to an ongoing probe into irregular migration activities in the area.

The imam presented himself at the Barra Immigration Station on 6 January 2026 to provide statements regarding allegations that fuel and other items belonging to intercepted migrants were seized and sold by some members of the community.

The claims were raised during an earlier engagement between the community and the GID’s intelligence team on 2 January.

GID officials said the imam is cooperating with investigators by accounting for the fuel, including how it was used and for what purpose.
