The Africell Park on Kairaba Avenue was alive with purpose ver the weekend as the “Media Run to Eliminate Breast Cancer” culminated a month-long Pink October campaign.
The event successfully fused fitness with a critical health mission, featuring a run and culminating in free breast cancer screenings for participants. Its core objectives were to raise public awareness, promote early detection, support those affected, and raise vital funds for research and treatment.
The gathering featured strong institutional support, with Dr. Obina, opening the event by underscoring its dual focus on health and fitness.
Captain Kemo Kanuteh, Ag PRO of the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF), delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the military’s role in the community and its pride in supporting such initiatives.
Further solidarity was shown by representatives from the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Secretariat, which highlighted its commitment under its female-dominated leadership.
MRC the Gambia, whose vice-Chairperson Adam John outlined the MRC’s broader goal of inspiring healthy lifestyles.
A significant highlight of the event was the urgent call for participants to take advantage of the free screenings provided in partnership with the National Cancer Control Program, GAF, and ECOMIG, reinforcing the life-saving power of early detection.
The organizers also issued a broader challenge to all Gambians to incorporate physical activity into their daily routines to combat non-communicable diseases.
Adding a powerful voice on youth and personal development, Muhammed Trawally, founder of the NGO Generation Next, inspired the crowd by sharing his own journey from a local security guard to a bank manager, urging young people to be determined, focused, and proactive about their health and futures.
