Mayor Lowe Highlights “Historic Moment” in China Partnership

By: The Fatu Network News Desk

Banjul Mayor Rohey Malick Lowe has announced a renewed phase of cooperation between Banjul and Nanning, a major city in the People’s Republic of China, describing her recent engagement with Nanning Mayor Hou Gang as “a historic moment.”

Lowe said the meeting, held alongside the inauguration of several ongoing partnership initiatives, included the official handover of “3 waste management trucks” and a representation of “230 modern solar street lights.”

She recalled that the relationship between the two cities dates back to 1987, when her father began discussions that “brought to light the first twinning between a city of the People’s Republic of China and The Gambia.”

According to Lowe, the custom designed trucks are “specific to the needs of our city” and reflect a “thorough R and D approach,” while the solar light donation will support “a smaller community in urgent need of this intervention,” an outreach she said Mayor Hou Gang welcomed as support to “Little Nanning.”

Lowe added that the newly signed agreement “signifies Nanning City’s commitment to supporting my legacy” and further strengthens the long standing partnership between the two cities.
