LK NAM Calls for the Immediate Impeachment of President Barrow

As a reaction to the recent press release from The Gambia Government regarding the deployment of regional governors and the appointment of new ones, Honorable Yahya Menteng Sanyang calls for the immediate impeachment of President Adama Barrow.
In an exclusive interview with New Global Media, the honorable stated that the president violated the constitution and remedied it in court.

“The National Assembly should take note that this is an IMPEACHABLE offense and should thus impeach the president immediately and effectively. You cannot violate the Constitution and remedy it during court proceedings. President Barrow is putting this country into an ungovernable situation by regularly and persistently violating constitutional orders. This is wrong and the president should be impeached immediately. Redeploying these half and semi-educated people as deputy permanent secretaries at ministries will not only make those ministries suffer from inefficiency but also a chronic administrative failure. I call for the impeachment of the president”

NAM claims that President Barrow is clueless about governance, describing the move as a constitutional violation. “What each Gambian should ask themselves is why will Barrow violate a clear provision of the local government act and make illegal appointments to the position of governors and deputy governors.”

The government issued a press release on Friday which they based on Section 123 (1) of the Local Government (Amendment) Act, 2006, by appointing new governors. Similarly, all current Deputy Governors are redeployed to the Ministry of Lands, Regional Government & Religious Affairs. All appointments and redeployments are effective immediately.

It could be recalled that the United Democratic Party filed a lawsuit challenging the appointment of regional governors which is still ongoing.
