Kerewan Area Council Supports Backfilling of Potholes at Barra Car Park

The President of the Barra Transport Union has commended the Kerewan Area Council for its recent intervention in backfilling potholes at the entry point of Barra Car Park.

The initiative, facilitated through Chief Alpha Mariam Khan of Jokadou and Essau Ward Councillor Michelle Mendy, has eased vehicle and passenger movement within the garage.

Speaking to The Voice during a media visit to Barra Car Park, Union President Njie Manka described the support as timely, noting that the heavy rains had caused severe potholes, creating challenges for drivers and passengers.

He appealed to the Kerewan Area Council to further assist the union in improving the poor access road leading to the Amdalaye Car Park at the border entry point. Manka also called on President Adama Barrow, through the Ministry of Works and the National Roads Authority (NRA), to consider constructing a standard access road and car park for Barra, given its strategic location.

He emphasized that such infrastructure would complement government’s on-going commitment to transforming the country’s road and transport sector.

The Union’s Secretary General Hassan Busso and Chef de Garage Adama Cham both expressed appreciation for the partnership with Kerewan Area Council and called for continued collaboration to upgrade Barra Car Park to standard level and ensure safety for passengers and road users.

Essau Ward Councillor Michelle Mendy explained that the initiative was designed to enhance the movement of vehicles and passengers within the car park. She reaffirmed the council’s commitment to reinvesting part of its revenue in development projects and urged drivers and management to ensure the safety of passengers and goods.

Councillor Mendy thanked the Chairman of Kerewan Area Council, Papa Tunkara, and CEO Sainabou Martin Mendy for their collaboration with CSE in carrying out maintenance works on the car park’s entrance, which had been in a deplorable condition.

She assured the council’s willingness to continue working with the car park management to extend similar support to the Amdalaye Car Park.

“This effort was made possible through the support of the chairman, who communicated with CSE to assist. Through my follow-up and the active involvement of the garage committee, especially President Njie Manka and his team, the project became a reality,” Councillor Mendy added.
