Kemo Conteh emerges as the second-best UTG Graduating Student (December 2023 Cohort

 

The president of the 21st Executive Council of the University of the Gambia Students’ Union, Kemo Conteh emerged as the Second Best Graduating Student (December 2023 Cohort) in the just concluded 17th Convocation of the University of the Gambia. Kemo was awarded Academic Excellence Award by the University of the Gambia.

Kemo successfully served in many leadership positions in the university of the Gambia: President of the University of the Gambia Students’ Union (UTGSU); Education and Research Minister of the University of the Gambia Students Union(UTGSU); Guidance and Counseling Minister of the University of the Gambia Social Sciences and Humanities Students Association(SoSHSA); Assistant Secretary General of the University of the Gambia Social Sciences and Humanities Students Association (SoSHSA); Lead Trainer and Chief Adjudicator of the University of the Gambia Nationwide Debate and Public Speaking Championship.

During his leaderships at the university, Kemo received the following awards: winner of the Vice Chancellor’s National Public Speaking Competition in 2020; Outstanding Leadership Award in Africa awarded by Milton Margai Technical University in Seirra Leone in 2023; and Student Leadership Award in 2024 by the University of the Gambia.

Upon receiving the news of his award as the Second Best Graduating Student, while on his master degree program in International Relations at the China Foreign Affairs University in Beijing, Kemo expressed thanks and gratitude to god, his parents, people of Baddibou Njaba Kunda, and the entire university community, expressing that hardwork always pays. He further expressed that student leadership is never an inhibiting factor to academic excellence, and encourage all young people to always contest for leadership positions.
