IMAAM FATTY AGREES TO DEBATE WITH IMAAM BABA LEIGH ON FGM

Imaam Fatty agrees to Debate with Imaam Baba Leigh on FGM.

Imaam Abdoulie Fatty has accepted the request to debate with Imaam Baba Leigh on a long traditional local practice, female genital mutilation (FGM) after Imaam Baba Leigh is on the motion of FGM practice, while Imaam Fatty is against the motion of the practice.

QSTV, who is organizing the debate, told Gambians that Imaam Fatty accepted the request to face his co-debate, Imaam Baba Leigh, on Female genital mutilation, and Imaam Baba Leigh’s response is awaiting.

QSTV says they are glad that Imaam Fatty accepts their invitation, adding that they are eagerly awaiting Imaam Baba Leigh’s response.
“We urge Baba Leigh to accept our invitation and participate in the dialogue,”

Despite a national ban and hefty penalties for the sum of 50,000 Dalasi and a jail sentence for FGM practitioners, some religious scholars support the practice.
Among them is Imaam Abdoulie Fatty who is one of the prominent religious leader in the Gambia who is known for his strong stance against the ban on Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). He is a vocal advocate for the prohibition of FGM in the country and has been actively involved in raising awareness about the harmful effects of banning FGM practice.
While Imaam Baba Leigh is also in support of the ban on Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), he is a prominent religious leader in the Gambia who has spoken out to defend the ban on FGM and advocated for its prohibition in the country. Like Imaam Abdoulie Fatty, Imaam Baba Leigh is known for his strong stance against the harmful practice of FGM.
