IGP fires imposter in police credit union attempted fraud

 

The Gambia Police Force has terminated a police officer after he attempted to withdraw money illegally from the Brikama Police Cooperative Credit Union.

According to the Force, the officer tried to access another member’s account by using false identification.

Staff quickly noticed the irregularity, apprehended him, and handed him over to the authorities.

Investigations also revealed that the officer may have been involved in other unauthorized withdrawals from members’ accounts.

Following a comprehensive internal review, the officer was found guilty of impersonation, fraud, and professional misconduct.

Inspector General of Police Seedy Mukhtar Touray confirmed that he has been dismissed with immediate effect.

The Gambia Police Force stressed that this was an isolated incident and does not reflect the organization’s values or professionalism.

The Force reaffirmed its commitment to discipline and warned that any officer found violating the rules would face strict consequences.
