Ibrahim Dampha, an employment specialist at the London School of Economics, has issued a strong statement affirming that Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda will contest in The Gambia’s 2026 Presidential Elections.
According to Dampha, “No amount of political brinkmanship or partisan manoeuvring can obscure the incontrovertible truth about the upcoming 2026 Presidential Elections. Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda will be on the ballot, InshaAllah.”
He emphasized that President Adama Barrow remains Bensouda’s primary political challenge, stressing that Gambians will be “laser-focused on removing Barrow from office and restoring coherence, accountability, and sanity to governance institutions.”
Dampha further called on Bensouda’s supporters to adopt a disciplined and respectful approach, avoiding petty online disputes or personal attacks. “As Gambians, this new advocacy of ours will be grounded in truth, respect, policy substance, and issue-based mobilisation,” he stated.
Dismissing rumors of Bensouda joining the ruling National People’s Party (NPP), Dampha clarified that “the People’s Mayor is not part of any superficial reconciliation efforts. His allegiance lies with the Gambian people and with every progressive citizen who prioritizes national interest above partisan blind loyalty.”
He urged Gambians to stay patient, safeguard their voter’s cards, and prepare to make their voices heard at the ballot box in December 2026. “We are prepared to offer you a viable alternative—one that will not be a mere protest vote, but a purposeful choice for competence, vision, and integrity,” Dampha assured.
