The Commissioner General of the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA), Yankuba Darboe, has officially launched a sensitization workshop on the authority’s new Integrated Tax Administration System (ITAS), emphasizing his vision for a modern, efficient, and transparent tax administration in The Gambia.
Addressing participants from the construction and consulting sectors, the Commissioner General highlighted the critical role these industries play in the nation’s economic and infrastructural development. “You are literally building the future of The Gambia, constructing our roads, buildings, and public infrastructure, and providing the expertise that drives national development,” he said.
The Commissioner General explained that the workshop forms part of GRA’s ongoing transformation agenda to modernize tax and customs processes, foster voluntary compliance, and implement digital solutions to streamline operations. ITAS, a secure web-based platform, will allow taxpayers to conduct e-registration, e-filing, e-payment, and receive tax refunds efficiently, significantly reducing compliance burdens and saving time.
“This system represents a fundamental shift in how tax administration operates,” he stated, noting that ITAS will improve transparency, minimize human error, and provide a clear digital record of all transactions.
While technology is central to the reform, the Commissioner General stressed that stakeholder engagement is equally important. “Your understanding, feedback, and adoption of ITAS are paramount. You are the champions who will carry this system forward,” he told participants, urging active involvement and collaboration to ensure a smooth transition.
During the workshop, GRA staff demonstrated the functionalities of ITAS, while participants raised questions and shared feedback. The Commissioner General encouraged open dialogue, stressing that the success of ITAS depends on strong partnerships between GRA and industry stakeholders.
Concluding his remarks, Mr. Darboe reiterated that ITAS would bring fairness, accountability, and efficiency to tax administration, while enhancing domestic revenue mobilization for national development. He thanked attendees for their participation and officially declared the workshop open, marking a significant milestone in GRA’s digital transformation journey.
With the launch of ITAS, the Commissioner General has positioned GRA at the forefront of modern tax administration, promising a system that is digital, efficient, and built on the principles of transparency and integrity.
