Inspector General of Police Seedy Mukhtar Touray presided over the official handover of vehicles and equipment valued at more than twenty million Dalasis by the German Police Support Team (GPST) during a grand ceremony held at the Police Intervention Unit (PIU) Headquarters in Kanifing on Thursday, October 24, 2024.
In his opening remarks, Assistant Inspector General of Police for Administration, Ebrima Bah, welcomed attendees and emphasized the importance of the donated items in enhancing the operational effectiveness of the Gambia Police Force (GPF). He expressed deep gratitude to GPST for their generosity and acknowledged the critical role of the police in combating crime.
The Head of Project GPST, Mr. Sebastian Eisenhardt, expressed pride in the ongoing collaboration between the GPST and the GPF. He highlighted the importance of the donation in ensuring greater mobility, operational readiness, and response capacity across police units. Eisenhardt also stressed the GPST’s long-term support, which includes capacity-building initiatives, infrastructure development, and training programs to enhance the efficiency of law enforcement.

He highlighted that the donated vehicles and equipment would enhance the operational capacity of the Police Intervention Unit (PIU) and other units, ensuring effective emergency response and crime prevention through proper deployment and maintenance.
Touray underscored the significance of international partnerships, citing the GPF-GPST collaboration as a model of cooperation. He acknowledged the value of technical training and logistical support from partners in addressing operational challenges. Reaffirming the GPF’s commitment to professionalism and accountability, he noted that the new vehicles would improve response times, coordination, and community policing, fostering public trust.
Representing the Federal Republic of Germany, Ambassador Klaus Botzet reiterated the strong bilateral relationship between Germany and The Gambia, reaffirming his country’s commitment to supporting the GPF in maintaining security and public safety.
The ceremony featured a parade and musical interludes, adding color and energy to the event. The Gambia Police Force remains committed to fostering partnerships with partners and stakeholders in upholding peace and stability of our nation.
