The Gambia Police Force released a press statement indicating that officers shot a man named Momodou Jallow in the buttocks after he refused to be searched. Jallow was reportedly found loitering around a Mauritanian shop in Fast Njagga Choi during a police patrol on Saturday, June 15, 2024, between 3:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. When the officers asked him to undergo a search, he fled with a bag, and in the process, he was shot. After he surrendered, Jallow was arrested, and a search of his possessions revealed three bundles of suspected cannabis. He was taken to the Amdalai Police Station for processing and then transferred to the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH) in Banjul for medical treatment. Jallow is reported to be in stable condition. The police reported an increase in criminal activity in the Fass Njagga Choi area, leading to multiple attacks on police officers. This has resulted in higher police deployment to the area to address the incidents and maintain security. The incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by the police in managing security threats in the region, specifically drug trafficking and cross-border crime.
GPF confirmed that they shot at a suspect in Fass Njagga Choi.
