Government rebuts issuance of 20,000 Diplomatic Passports

The Government has published a press release refuting the issuance of 20,000 Gambian diplomatic passports.

The issuance of diplomatic passports in The Gambia is strictly regulated and follows a transparent, well-defined process. Diplomatic passports are issued only to Gambian diplomats, their spouses, senior government officials, Gambian staff serving in international organisations, and other individuals representing the interests of The Gambia at home and abroad.

To maintain transparency, the National Assembly of The Gambia had an update on the three thousand and thirty (3,030) diplomatic passports issued by the end of 2024.

Therefore, the public is urged to disregard the baseless allegations by a Senegalese journalist and politician that The Gambia has issued 20,000 diplomatic passports, including to family members and former ministers of the former President of Senegal, H.E. Macky Sall. This information is entirely false, and a calculated fabrication intended to mislead the public and create unnecessary tension between The Gambia and the Republic of Senegal.

The public is urged to rely on official government sources for accurate information.

Additionally, the Government sincerely thanks the Gambian people for their understanding, vigilance, and continued trust, and encourages all to remain steadfast.
