In a landmark event held this morning, the Government of The Gambia officially signed and handed over a plot of land in Lamin CDC for the construction of a proposed new national stadium. The plot allocated measures 255.00m x 306.00m x 626.00m x 100.00m x 100m x 530.00m x 140.00m x 150.00m x 353.00m x 100.00m and 246m.
In the vein a similar allocation measuring 450 x 379.00 x 308 x 246.00 x 327.00 is also made to the community of Lamin through the Alkalo and VDC respectively.
The brief but historic ceremony brought together officials from the Ministry of Youth & Sports, the Ministry of Lands Ministry of Lands, Regional Government and Religious Affairs, and representatives of the Lamin community.
The handing over was presided over by the Ministry of Youth & Sports and Ministry of Lands by Honourable Bakary Y. Badjie, and the Honourable Hamat N.K. Bah, respectively.
Representatives from the community of Lamin include Messrs. Jammeh E.K. Bojang, Chairman of the Lamin Village Development Committee, Lamin Camara.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Bakary Y. Badjie emphasized the importance of the project in advancing sports development in the country.
“This allocation is in line with the National Sports Policy objective in sports infrastructure development thus reaffirming government commitment to providing sporting facilities for the young people of this country.” he said. “The government is determined to ensure that Gambian sports are developed to international standards, and this land is a key step toward that vision.”
On his part, Minister Hamat N.K. Bah underscored the government’s efforts in resolving the long-standing issue of land allocation in this country.
Hon Hamat N. K. Bah emphasized that the land is allocated to the community of Lamin through the Alkalolu and the Village Development Committee (VDC)
“This process has not been easy, but through dialogue and cooperation, we were able to reach a solution that benefits both the government and the Lamin community,” Minister Bah noted. “This land will serve not just as a sporting facility but as a legacy for future generations.”
Speaking on behalf of community Lamin Village, Mr. Jammeh E.K. Bojang, Chairman of the Lamin Village Development Committee, expressed gratitude to the government for engaging the community throughout the process.
“On behalf of the people of Lamin, I want to thank the government for recognizing our community’s role in national development”. “We assure you that this land will be used for its intended purpose to promote sports and other youth-centered activities.”
