The Gambian national wrestling team has officially checked in at Banjul International Airport ahead of their participation in the 13th edition of the ECOWAS African Wrestling Tournament (TOLAC), set to take place in Abuja, Nigeria, from March 6 to 8, 2025.
Dressed in their official team tracksuits, the delegation, comprising wrestlers, coaches, and officials, exuded confidence and determination as they prepared to represent The Gambia on the regional stage. This competition, organized by the ECOWAS Youth and Sports Development Centre (EYSDC) in collaboration with the Nigerian Sports Federation, will bring together top wrestlers from across West Africa to showcase their strength and skills.
The participation of the Gambian team highlights the country’s commitment to promoting traditional sports and strengthening its presence in regional wrestling competitions. The National Sports Council and the Gambia Wrestling Association have worked closely to ensure that the team is well-prepared for this high-level tournament.
Speaking before departure, team officials expressed optimism about the competition, emphasizing the team’s rigorous training and readiness to make The Gambia proud. Wrestling remains a deeply rooted cultural sport in the country, and the wrestlers are eager to showcase their talent on the ECOWAS stage.
