The Gambia National Women’s Scorpions have departed Dakar for a historic double-header against Kenya in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers.

Ahead of their departure, the team received a motivational address from the Fourth Vice President, Ms. Sainabou Cham, who represented the President of the Gambia Football Federation (GFF), Mr. Lamin Kaba Bajo. She congratulated the players selected for the final squad, praising their hard work, dedication, and undeniable talent.

“As you travel to face Kenya, we wish you nothing but the best. This is a crucial test and a chance to make history. I urge you to remain committed, play as a unit, and give everything on the pitch. Know that the President and his Executive are with you every step of the way. We believe in you,” she said.

Ms. Cham added, “You are not just a team; you are ambassadors of The Gambia. You carry the hopes and dreams of a nation eager to see you qualify for the first time. Go make us proud, Queen Scorpions, and write your names in the annals of Gambian history.”

The Scorpions are expected to face Kenya in the two-leg encounter, aiming to secure a historic spot in the WAFCON tournament.
