Gambia presidential election set for December 5, 2026

 

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has announced that Gambia’s presidential election will be held on 5 December 2026.

IEC Chairman Joseph Colley made the announcement during the launch of the Commission’s 2026–2027 election calendar in Bijilo.

According to the schedule, National Assembly elections will take place on 10 April 2027, followed by Councillor elections on 22 May and Mayoral and Chairperson elections on 26 June 2027.

A supplementary voter registration exercise will be conducted between 1 April and 14 May 2026.

Mr Colley reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to transparency and inclusivity in line with the country’s electoral laws and urged political groups to comply with registration requirements.

The IEC is mandated under Section 43 of the Constitution to conduct all public elections and referenda in The Gambia.
