The Gambia’s U-18 beach volleyball team secured a thrilling victory over the United States in the ongoing FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships.
The Gambian duo of Bunja Bakary Kanyi and Abdallah Jallow battled to a hard-fought 2–1 win, taking the first set 22–20 before the USA leveled the match with a 21–14 second-set victory. In a tense decider, the Gambians held their nerve to clinch the third set 15–12 and seal the match.
In the girls’ category, The Gambia’s pair Hoja Njie and Mariama delivered an impressive straight-sets win against host nation Qatar. The duo dominated the Pool H encounter with commanding scores of 21–12 and 21–10 to record a 2–0 victory.
Both Gambian teams have now made strong statements in their respective categories, marking an encouraging start to their World Championship campaigns.
