The statement comes after a member of the newly established Gambian Anti-corruption Corruption Commission, Almameh James Manga face allegations of taking D65,650 in mobile‑money transfers from an accused land dealer, Sheikh Tijan Khan, amid efforts to secure a refund or land compensation for a friend who paid D1.2M for a 20x30m Salagie plot.
“The naked truth is this a corrupt individual cannot lead or enforce the fight against corruption. These allegations are unthinkable and must not be taken lightly. I hope Gambians are paying close attention this is no small matter to be ignored,” Camara stated, highlighting the danger of having such an accused person serving as an anti-corruption enforcer.
“If these allegations are true or even partially substantiated then Mr. Manga has gravely breached the trust placed in him as both a police prosecutor and as a commissioner of an anti-corruption institution. Such conduct fundamentally undermines the credibility Manga, the Gambia Police Force and the Anti Corruption Commission.”
Neither the police nor Manga is yet publicly make any statement about the allegations.
