Free tuberculosis (TB) screening event held at Brufut Market

The National Leprosy and Tuberculosis Control Program, under the Ministry of Health, successfully organized a free tuberculosis (TB) screening event at Brufut Market earlier today. The initiative aimed to provide essential health services to the community, with a focus on reaching individuals who may be unaware of their TB status.

According to Sainey Cham, Senior Leprosy and Tuberculosis Officer at the TB and Leprosy Control Office, the findings are concerning. “Currently, we estimate that 29% of TB cases are missing, meaning these individuals are likely living undiagnosed in our communities. We want to bring healthcare closer to them, as sitting in offices alone makes it difficult to reach these people,” Cham stated.

Health officials expressed their satisfaction with the turnout, emphasizing the importance of such outreach programs. The free screening offered residents an opportunity to check their TB status, with immediate and free treatment available for those who test positive.

The National Leprosy and Tuberculosis Control Program is committed to broadening its outreach efforts, with plans to engage additional communities, ensuring that critical healthcare services are accessible to all.
