Flash Floods Hit Greater Banjul Area, Residents Voice Frustration

A heavy downpour of rain resulted in flash floods in several parts of the Greater Banjul Area, leaving many residents grappling with the aftermath. The sudden flooding has once again highlighted the region’s ongoing struggle with inadequate drainage systems.

Residents affected by the floods expressed their dissatisfaction with the local council’s handling of infrastructure issues. Mariama Sanyang, a market vendor, shared her frustrations, stating, “We have been dealing with this problem for years, and nothing seems to change. Every time it rains heavily, we face the same issues.”

Lamin, a shopkeeper who also experienced the flooding, echoed similar sentiments. He emphasized the need for immediate action to address the poor drainage system, which remains a significant cause of the recurrent flooding. “The council needs to prioritize fixing the drainage system. We can’t keep suffering like this every time it rains,” he urged.

The flash floods have disrupted daily activities and caused significant inconvenience to residents, who are now calling for urgent intervention from the authorities. The recurring nature of these floods has exacerbated frustrations among the community, who feel that their concerns have not been adequately addressed.

As the Greater Banjul Area continues to face challenges with its drainage infrastructure, the voices of residents like Mariama Sanyang and Lamin highlight the urgent need for effective solutions to prevent future occurrences of such disruptive and damaging floods.
