The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Welfare today
The Directorate of Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment of the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Welfare today hosted a productive meeting with Gender Journalists for Women and Cultural Advancement focused on this important issue. This capacity-building initiative serves as a foundational step in strengthening our collective efforts and providing members with the essential tools and knowledge necessary to effectively confront GBV.

” Journalists need to adopt a proactive approach in their reporting on GBV. Although girls have demonstrated impressive achievements in their WASSE examinations, much of this success has primarily been shared on social media” said Sarjo Camara, the Information and Communication Officer.

She added that the meeting with journalists presents a valuable opportunity for various media outlets to actively engage and contribute, adding that by working together to highlight these success stories, journalists can enrich the discussion around gender issues and foster an environment that supports advocacy and positive change. She pointed out that together, we can increase awareness and promote informed public discourse about gender-based violence.

Bernard Sanneh, a member of the network, said they aim to reinforce commitment to gender equality as well as efforts to combat the GBV.

The forum allowed journalists to ask questions and further interact with ministry officials. Key issues on Gender-Based Violence and related topics were discussed in detail to enable reporters to have a better understanding.

The event took place at NANA Conference Hall, Bakau.
