The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday arraigned two Chinese nationals for alleged illegal mining at the Federal High Court, Lagos.
The foreigners – Zhang Hong Lin and Gao Pei Hai – were arraigned on a five-count charge of unlawful possession and exportation of mineral resources.
They, however, pleaded “not guilty” to the offence.
The EFCC arrested the two defendants alongside six Nigerians in the Ogere area of Ogun State on May 9.

Following their plea, the prosecution counsel, Bilkisu Buhari, asked the court to pick a trial date and remand the defendants in a correctional centre in the state.
The defence counsel, Jeremiah Okoro, however, asked the court to remand his clients in the EFCC’s custody pending the hearing of the bail application.
Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke remanded the defendants in a correctional centre and adjourned the matter till July 4 for the commencement of trial.
