In a vibrant gathering in Sasita village, Hon. Lamin Cham, the National Campaign Manager for the National People’s Party (NPP), and Hon. Dou Sannoh addressed a crowd of enthusiastic villagers, delivering a strong message of unity and progress under the leadership of President Adama Barrow.
Dou Sannoh, speaking passionately to the villagers, emphasized the intertwined nature of the Fula and Mandinka communities, highlighting the social cohesion in The Gambia. He reiterated President Barrow’s commitment to national development, stating, “The reason why President Barrow was elected is to develop the nation, and he is doing it.”
In a direct critique of the United Democratic Party (UDP), Sannoh questioned the accountability of local government officials. He pointed out the alleged misuse of funds by the area council chairman, Landing B. Sanneh, and cited a report from the Local Government Commission indicating that 30 million dalasis are unaccounted for. “Before they come here and make a fool of you, ask them where the money from Kabada, Soma, Sasita, Japineh, Kayaf, and many other villages has gone,” Sannoh urged the villagers.
He accused the UDP leadership, specifically targeting Ousainou Darboe and his executive, of corruption and incompetence. Sannoh highlighted the defection of several former UDP members to the NPP, including himself, Lamin Cham, Omar Drammeh, Lamin Ceesay, and Sarja, as evidence of the UDP’s declining influence. “We were the inner shell of the UDP. Now only the outer shell is left,” he remarked.
Promising significant infrastructural development, Sannoh assured the villagers that President Barrow’s administration is committed to providing electricity to all Gambian villages, with a particular emphasis on Sasita. He also noted the presence of a regional woman mobilizer from Sasita who recently traveled to Mecca, facilitated by President Barrow.
In his closing remarks, Sannoh called for unity and support for President Barrow in the upcoming 2026 elections, warning against opposition parties he likened to hyenas. “If anyone gives their goat or sheep to a hyena, in the morning you won’t find anything apart from blood,” he cautioned.
The meeting concluded with Sannoh expressing his gratitude to the people of Sasita, Kabada, and former members of the GDC and UDP who have joined the NPP, welcoming them to what he described as the “Mighty NPP.”
The sentiments expressed at the meeting reflect a strong endorsement of President Barrow’s leadership and a call for continued support as the country moves towards the next election cycle.
