President Bassirou Diomaye Faye met with senior PASTEF figures at the Presidential Palace earlier in the week in an effort to ease tensions after weeks of disagreement over the leadership of the “Diomaye Président” coalition.
According to local media, Faye reassured party leaders of his loyalty to Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, saying he would “never harm” him and stressing that their communication had never been interrupted.
He also confirmed that he personally appointed former prime minister Aminata Touré to restructure the coalition, pointing to her past commitment while acknowledging internal objections to the decision.
PASTEF later issued a short statement describing the meeting as “fraternal and constructive” and saying discussions focused on strengthening unity within both the party and the Diomaye Sonko partnership.
