Crackdown on irregular migration routes: GPF intercepts 77 people during night patrol

The North Bank Region Regional Task Force on Sunday, February 2, 2026, conducted a targeted intelligence-led night operation aimed at disrupting suspected irregular migration activities.

Acting on credible intelligence, officers intercepted seventy-seven (77) individuals at a coastal location and conveyed them to Essau Model Police Station for screening and verification.

Preliminary checks indicate that those intercepted include nationals from West African countries, including The Gambia and Senegal. The individuals remain under temporary police custody pending verification, after which confirmed migrants will be handed over to the Gambia Immigration Department for appropriate administrative action.

Investigations are ongoing to identify suspected agents or facilitators linked to the activity.

The Gambia Police Force remains committed to strengthening border security and safeguarding lives through coordinated, intelligence-led operations. Members of the public are encouraged to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or call 9968885.
