The Judiciary of The Gambia has formally inaugurated three newly-constituted Disciplinary Panels to adjudicate complaints against legal practitioners.

The General Legal Council (GLC), under the leadership of His Lordship, Chief Justice Hassan B. Jallow, yesterday held the inauguration in accordance with Section 28 of the Legal Practitioners Act, 2024.

The swearing-in ceremony, held on 15 October 2025, marked another significant step in the ongoing effort to strengthen integrity and accountability within The Gambia’s legal profession. The panels were established following wide consultations with the Attorney General’s Chamber, the Private Bar, and the Judiciary.

The panels are chaired by sitting judges of the High Court: Justice Sarah Aryee, Justice Ebrima Jaiteh, and Justice Isatou Janneh. Each panel includes a representative from the Private Bar and the State Law Office to ensure fairness and balance in disciplinary proceedings.

During the ceremony, Justice Ebrima Jaiteh, who also chairs one of the panels, underscored the gravity of the task ahead. “We have a responsibility to ensure this profession is properly regulated amidst the challenges we face,” he said. “We thank the Chief Justice for his confidence in us and the members of the General Legal Council. We will deliver to expectations without fear or favor, affection, or ill will.”

Panel members have taken an oath of secrecy, pledging to uphold confidentiality and avoid any ex parte communication regarding pending matters.

In his closing remarks, Chief Justice Jallow congratulated the panelists on behalf of the GLC and the entire judiciary.
