CDS Cham kicks off second leg of Nationwide tour of Military Installations

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) Lieutenant General Mamat OA Cham, on Monday, 9 June 2025, launched the second leg of his nationwide tour of military installations focusing on engagements with troops stationed in borderline communities, Greater Banjul Area and the Capital city.

The delegation’s first port of call was 4the  Infantry Battalion (4 Bn) Headquarters in Kanilai, where General Cham was received by a spectacular Quarter Guard by troops of the Battalion. The delegation was briefed by the Battalion Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Wassa Camara, on activities undertaken by the Battalion before meeting with community elders of Kanilai and surrounding villages.

CDS Cham, during meetings with community leaders, emphasised nurturing robust civil-military relations. He noted that soldiers must actively serve communities beyond their strict mandate such as providing medical assistance and participating in community service.

The GAF Boss, during a durbar with troops of 4 Bn, echoed the importance of discipline. He commended 4 Bn for what he described as an “exceptional welcome and well-coordinated Quarter Guard”, urging them to maintain the momentum in upholding standards.

The CDS visited the Senegalese ECOMIG contingent, where he received a briefing on their operations, before visiting Sibanor Military Base after a brief stop at Jilanfari village.

The tour continues.
