Former President Yahya Jammeh has announced plans to return to The Gambia in November, nearly nine years after going into exile.
In a recorded WhatsApp audio message shared with hundreds of supporters gathered in his hometown of Kanilai, Jammeh declared his intention to come home, sparking jubilation among loyalists of the former ruling APRC.
Details of the planned return, including the exact date and travel arrangements, are expected to be released soon by the party’s interim executive.
Jammeh has been living in exile in Equatorial Guinea since his 2016 election defeat to President Adama Barrow.
His message comes amid renewed calls from some APRC supporters for his return, while others have urged caution, citing ongoing investigations into human rights abuses committed under his rule.
