Basse Palmas Football Academy achieved their first victory in the Basse Subzone Nawetan by defeating T. Junction 1-0 in their final group match on Monday.
The rapidly growing Koba Kunda-based academy drew its first two matches before securing today’s win, leaving many followers and fans eager to see them achieve this feat.
Known as “The Green Boys,” Basse Palmas dominated the first 45 minutes of the game but went into halftime without either team scoring. With T. Junction already secured a place in the knockout stage, they fielded a changed lineup compared to their previous matches. However, this strategy only lasted for the first half before introducing three key players who had started on the bench.
As these changes took effect, the contest became more intense, with Basse Palmas consistently getting closer to scoring. The breakthrough came when a Basse Palmas winger delivered a cross into a congested defence, leaving the T. Junction goalkeeper unable to react to a deflected ball within the area.
As the match continued, Basse Palmas took the lead, while T. Junction had a few opportunities to equalise but could not convert them into goals.
In the fifth minute of stoppage time, a decision by the central referee resulted in the sending off of Basse Palmas’ right-back, who received a second yellow card for allegedly wasting time while taking a throw-in. The Basse Palmas bench challenged this decision, arguing that the player held the ball for no longer than five seconds.
With this decision hanging in the balance, Basse Palmas will proceed to the Round of 16 without one of their standout players so far in the Nawetan. They finished the group stage with 5 points and no goals conceded, placing them behind T. Junction (6 points) while Dampha (1 point) and Giroba (1 point) await their match tomorrow.
