President Adama Barrow has expressed profound sorrow over the recent protests that claimed the life of Omar Badjie and left several others injured, calling for peace and unity across the nation.
In a broadcast statement on Monday, 29th September 2025, President Barrow extended condolences to Badjie’s family and assured them, as well as all affected citizens and security personnel, of state support and prayers during this difficult time. He also wished a swift recovery to the injured, including members of the law enforcement community.
The President emphasized that while the right to peaceful protest is constitutionally protected, violence, destruction of property, and threats to public safety cannot be tolerated. “Every life lost is a loss for our entire nation, and each injury is a reminder of the preciousness of peace,” he said.
Barrow urged Gambians, particularly the youth, to channel grievances through lawful and constructive means, reassuring them that their voices and aspirations remain central to the government’s agenda. He warned that a small minority might attempt to exploit such moments for personal or political gain, but stressed that those resorting to violence would face accountability under the law.
Calling on security forces to exercise professionalism, restraint, and respect for human rights, the President highlighted the role of robust democratic institutions courts, the National Assembly, and civil society in addressing grievances and maintaining public order.
“Let unity, respect for one another, and commitment to our national values guide us,” President Barrow concluded, urging all Gambians to work together peacefully to build a stronger, more stable nation.
