Army’s trampling on democratic process :International Election Observers demand immediate return to constitutional order in Guinea Bissau.

International observer groups are speaking out after the country’s armed forces suddenly took control, stopping the democratic process right in its tracks.

In a united message, the African Union, ECOWAS, and the West African Elders Forum condemned the power grab, calling it a direct attack on the nation’s democratic path.

This military move happened just as the country was awaiting the final results from the 23 November elections, which observers had earlier praised for being calm, well-organized, and transparent.

The groups are demanding the immediate release of all detained election officials and urging citizens to stay peaceful during this critical moment. They also called on regional bodies to help restore constitutional order without delay.

What’s even more striking: the coup was announced right after observer teams met with the two top presidential candidates—both of whom had agreed to respect the people’s choice.
