The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in the recently concluded Lagos State local government elections, sweeping all 57 chairmanship seats and winning 375 out of 376 councillorship positions across the state.
The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), which announced the official results on Sunday, confirmed that the ruling party maintained its political dominance by securing victories in all 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).
However, in a surprise upset, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) clinched a single councillorship seat in Ward D of the Yaba LCDA. The PDP candidate, Babatunde Dosunmu — a former APC member who defected to the opposition party shortly before the polls — defeated the APC candidate to claim the rare win.
LASIEC, while presenting the results, described the elections as largely peaceful despite concerns over low voter turnout and allegations of irregularities in isolated areas.
The newly elected council chairmen and councillors are expected to be sworn in later this month.
Below is the full list of chairmanship election winners as released by LASIEC:
