Aisha Yesufu vows to work against Obi if he accepts running mate position in 2027

Political activist and co-convener of the BringBackOurGirls movement, Aisha Yesufu, has vowed to work against the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, if he accepts to become a running mate in the 2027 presidential election.

Yesufu, a staunch supporter of the former Anambra State governor, took the stance following the launching of a coalition by several opposition politicians, including Obi, who adopted the Action Democratic Congress (ADC), in preparation for the upcoming election.

With speculations that the coalition is likely to field former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the presidential candidate with Obi as his running mate, Yesufu, in a trending video shared on social media platforms on Friday, declared that she would work against any ticket that features Obi as a running mate in the 2027 presidential election.

“If Peter Obi becomes a running mate to anyone in 2027, I will work against that ticket in my little capacity,” Yesufu said in the video.

Her stance, she said, is hinged on her perception that women are often relegated to deputy positions, and she believes Obi would be better suited as a presidential candidate rather than a running mate.
