The Kanifing Magistrates’ Court has convicted and sentenced former AGIB Bank employee Kaddy Manneh for stealing D2,792,000.00 from customers’ accounts over several years.
Police prosecutors, led by Commissioner A. S. Manga alongside ASP L. Badjie, Sub-Inspector Kebbeh, and Corporal 2231 L. Gibba, charged Manneh with one count of stealing by clerk or servant. She pleaded guilty when the charge was read before Magistrate Mben Faal.
According to the prosecution, Manneh, who worked as a Transaction Officer at AGIB Bank, made several unauthorised withdrawals from multiple customer accounts between March 2022 and 2025. The discrepancies were uncovered during an internal audit that exposed a shortage in the bank’s records. The case was subsequently reported to the police, who traced the missing funds to Manneh.
The prosecution tendered the bank’s audit report as well as cautionary and voluntary statements made by the accused, all of which were admitted as evidence without objection.
Delivering judgment, Magistrate Mben Faal fined Manneh D15,000.00, with a one-month prison term in default, and ordered her to compensate AGIB Bank with D2,477,000.00 within two years. The payment deadline is set for November 5, 2025.
The court further required the convict to present three Gambian sureties, one of whom must provide a compound document as bond security. Failure to meet the compensation order will result in two years’ imprisonment at Mile 2 Central Prison.
Manneh was convicted under Section 258 of the Criminal Code, Cap 10:01, Volume III, Laws of The Gambia, 2009, which deals with stealing by clerk or servant.
