“A Truly Transformative Experience”: The Fatu Network’s Mama A. Touray Concludes Media Training in China

By: The Fatu Network News Desk

The Fatu Network reporter Mama A. Touray has successfully completed a two-week intensive training on New Media Operation and Management in Beijing, China, as part of a media exchange programme for journalists from “Belt and Road” countries.

The Belt and Road Initiative is China’s global development strategy aimed at enhancing cooperation in trade, infrastructure, and cultural exchange across Asia, Africa, and Europe. The programme, organised through the Gambia Press Union with support from the Chinese Embassy in Banjul, seeks to strengthen media collaboration and mutual understanding among participating nations.

Reflecting on her experience, Mama described the training as “truly transformative”, noting that she learned from experienced professors whose insights offered her a “fresh perspective” on her journalism career. She added that she is returning home “with a renewed spirit full of ideas” to apply in her work at The Fatu Network.

Beyond the classroom, participants explored Beijing’s historical landmarks and advanced technology centres. “This experience was the perfect blend of the ancient and the futuristic,” she said, expressing gratitude to The Fatu Network and the GPU for their trust, and to the Chinese Embassy for making the trip possible.

Earlier in the programme, Mama joined fellow journalists on a visit to Dalian, a modern coastal city in northeast China known for its thriving technology, education, and media industries. There, the delegation toured major news institutions and state-of-the-art infrastructure as part of the exchange, which gathered media professionals from across Asia, Africa, and Europe to promote shared learning and cross-cultural understanding within the Belt and Road framework.
