A car accident at the Busumbala main market junction involving a vehicle with the license plate WCR 5979B caused significant property damage and raised safety concerns among residents. The speeding car reportedly crashed into a compound’s fence, resulting in its collapse and damage to the vehicle.
Eyewitness accounts reveal that the situation nearly escalated when the compound owner, armed with a hammer, appeared ready to confront the driver. However, timely intervention by shopkeepers and neighbors averted a violent confrontation before traffic police arrived at the scene.
According to preliminary investigations, the driver was operating the vehicle without a valid license. Thankfully, no injuries were reported in the incident.
Speaking to New Global Media, Modou Njie, a shopkeeper near the scene, expressed concern over the driver’s behavior. “The driver was running at high speed. Sometimes children pass or play around these compounds, which is not safe. Accidents like this could have serious consequences,” he stated.
The incident has sparked renewed calls for stricter traffic law enforcement and speed control measures in residential and market areas to protect pedestrians, particularly children. The matter remains under investigation by local authorities.
