Residents of Busumbala are growing increasingly frustrated with the National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) over the deteriorating state of a major water pipe that has been in place for years without proper maintenance. Fafa Dem, a local resident, voiced his disappointment in an interview with New Global Media, urging NAWEC to take immediate action to maintain the pipe, which is critical for the community’s water supply.
Fafa Dem emphasized that the water supplied by NAWEC has become unsafe for drinking, causing significant concern among the people of Busumbala. “The water is no longer safe for drinking, and it has been a constant issue. We have tried reaching out to NAWEC several times, but nothing has been done. We are pleading with them to help and maintain the pipeline,” he said, expressing frustration over the lack of response to the community’s repeated requests.
The community’s struggle with the deteriorating water infrastructure is compounded by their ongoing efforts to get NAWEC’s attention. Despite multiple attempts, New Global Media was unable to reach the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of NAWEC for comment at the time of publication.
Residents are hoping their voices will be heard and that NAWEC will take swift action to restore the water supply to safe standards.
