Barrow said Leaders have a Responsibility to Maintain Peace and Stability.
As part of events marking the 59th Independence Anniversary of The Gambia, a National Preparatory Committee (NPC) comprising representatives from a cross-section of institutions and Civil Society Organizations (CSO) organize a National Dialogue on the 12th, 14th, and 16th February 2024 on different thematic areas.
This dialogue aims to bring Gambians under one umbrella to make it one nation.
Speaking at the National Dialogue 2024, the president of the Republic of the Gambia said leaders have a vital role in national development and are responsible for maintaining peace and stability.
Barrow added that they can achieve this by avoiding and defusing political and social tension through frequent public engagements with people within the public and private sectors.
“You may recall that I have continuously called upon my fellow Gambians to join hands and work in the country’s best interest. It is every citizen’s responsibility to contribute to our overall security, peace, and stability, being an official or private sector as a public servant,” he said.
The president of the Republic of the Gambia further explains that his government holds a view that we should forget national consensus on national issues that generate divergent views.
And it should not result in enmity or disunity. Instead, it should be a source of strength for us to tolerate, appreciate, and empathize with one another to allow all citizens to contribute to maintaining peace and stability nationwide.
Furthermore, the president calls on all citizens to participate in the upcoming national dialogue to discuss political, environmental, and religious tolerance, ethnic diversity, sovereignty security, safeguarding the media and democratic space, irregular migration, and empowerment of our youth.
