Inauguration of Kuntaur Community Radio Station Marks Historic Milestone in CRR North

 

The Central River Region (CRR) North celebrated a significant milestone with the inauguration of its first community radio station in Kuntaur. This landmark event was marked by speeches and statements that highlighted the importance of this new development in enhancing communication, education, and community engagement in the region.

In his welcoming remarks, the Chairman of the Kuntaur Area Council, Hon. Saihou Jawara, expressed his profound gratitude and optimism for the new radio station. “Today marks a turning point for our community. The Kuntaur Community Radio Station will serve as a vital tool for information dissemination, education, and fostering unity among our people,” Hon. Jawara stated. He further emphasized the role of the radio station in giving a voice to the local community, particularly in areas that have been historically underserved.

The event was graced by the Honorable Governor of the Central River Region, who delivered the keynote statement. The Governor underscored the significance of the radio station as a beacon of progress in CRR North. “This radio station is not just a communication medium; it is a bridge that connects our diverse communities, promotes development, and ensures that everyone, regardless of location, is informed and heard,” the Governor remarked. He also acknowledged the collaborative efforts that made the project a reality, highlighting the support from various stakeholders.

A delegation from the Ministry of Lands, Regional Government, and Religious Affairs, led by Permanent Secretary Mr. Ebrima Sisawo, was present at the inauguration. The delegation included Mrs. Fatou Gibba, the Director of the Department of Community Development, The Gambia. Speaking on behalf of the ministry, Mr. Sisawo praised the initiative and the funding support provided by UNICEF through the Department of Community Development. “This radio station represents our commitment to empowering communities, particularly in rural areas, by providing them with the tools they need to thrive,” Mr. Sisawo noted. He also commended the efforts of the local authorities and the community in making the project a success.

The new Kuntaur Community Radio Station is expected to play a crucial role in addressing the communication needs of the people in CRR North, offering a platform for local voices to be heard and promoting social cohesion and development in the region. This achievement reflects the government’s dedication to improving the lives of its citizens through innovative and community-driven projects.
