Electorates of Lower Nuimi are calling for the recall of their National Assembly Member (NAM), Hon. Tamsir Cham, over what they describe as ineffective representation and absenteeism. The discontent, voiced by several prominent community members, highlights a growing frustration with the current political leadership.
Hon. Tamsir Cham, representing the National People’s Party (NPP), has been criticized for his decision to support a representative who, according to many residents, has failed to serve their interests effectively. Critics argue that the representative is often absent and more focused on personal interests than those of the constituency.
One of the leading voices of discontent, Mustapha Jammeh, pointed out the issues with absentee MPs and criticized the quality of representation. “We have absentee MPs, DJs, and Political Griots representing their selfish interests in Parliament. We need a complete revamp of the system and then, we need to open our eyes because SOME of these NAMs are just something else,” he said. Jammeh stressed that these representatives are often unavailable for essential discussions and are either traveling or otherwise occupied.
Jammeh further emphasized the divisive tactics used by some politicians. “So long we don’t turn blind eyes and ears on politicians using tribal and religion as tools in dividing us, we’ll continue suffering while they’re enjoying with their friends and loved ones,” he added.
Dodou Sarr expressed frustration over missed opportunities, attributing the community’s struggles to nepotism. “That’s my problem with we Nuimikas; we were given gold on a silver plate but failed to acknowledge it. Nepotism is what we implore and it is now haunting us,” Sarr remarked. He suggested that Honourable Modou Bobb, known for his vocal support of Lower Nuimi’s interests, would have been a better choice for representation.
Ebou M.O. Joof echoed the disappointment, noting the lack of positive contributions from the current NAM. “Since he was elected, I never heard anything positive he mentioned at the national assembly for the benefit of the people at Lower Nuimi. I believe we will learn a big lesson from this situation and strive to change the narratives come 2026,” Joof said. He urged the people of Nuimi to stop believing that only the ruling government could lead them to prosperity.
Mot Ceesay highlighted the broader issue of underperformance among National Assembly members. “It is deeply concerning to witness that most of our National Assembly members are failing to perform in the best interests of the people they were elected to serve. Many of our National Assembly members do not deserve their seats in our chambers,” Ceesay stated. He called for greater accountability and suggested recalling representatives who fail to fulfill their duties responsibly and effectively.
The call for the recall of Hon. Tamsir Cham reflects a broader desire among Lower Nuimi residents for more effective and accountable representation. As the 2026 elections approach, the community appears determined to seek leaders who will prioritize their interests and work diligently on their behalf.
