The release of cement trucks at the border has sparked reactions among the Gambians.

The announcement by the Gambia Government to release trucks loaded with cement at the border, some Gambians have quickly reacted to the move describing it as long overdue.

It could be recalled that the Gambia halted the importation of bagged cement.

” It’s a positive move, trucks were stranded for a long period. They could make more money within this period” says Sariyang Konteh, a father of one of the truck drivers.

Mr Sonko told this medium that his son is a breadwinner and is glad that the Government understands their plight.

Ebrima Ceesay who owns a runs a similar business with his truck, said the Government should extend the period.

” I paid for cement in Senegal but I didn’t start moving it from Dakar. When I heard that trucks were stranded at the border, I decided to hold on”

Alhagie Gigo and Sulayman Leigh all expressed similar remarks and thanked the government for the positive directive.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration and Employment, the directive is issued to alleviate the stockpile situation at the border.

The release further clarified that the initiative doesn’t signify any alteration or lifting of the current import measures for bagged cement.
